Food, Culture, and Daily Life

Warungs (local family-run eateries) sit alongside health-food cafés built for the Instagram-and-oat-milk crowd, and both are genuinely good. Canggu's culture is really two cultures overlapping: the Balinese village rhythm of temple ceremonies and rice-farming still visible everywhere, and an imported wellness-and-hustle nomad culture layered on top. A scooter is essential — sidewalks are inconsistent, and everything from coworking to the beach is scooter-distance, not walking-distance.

Getting There and Getting Around

From Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) in Denpasar, Canggu is roughly 40 minutes by taxi in normal traffic, costing about $10–13 for a standard taxi or noticeably less via a ferry-plus-van combination some budget operators run. Once there, renting a scooter (~$50–70/month) is close to mandatory — Canggu's roads are narrow, sidewalks are patchy, and distances are just long enough that walking everywhere isn't realistic.
