Most 'best cities' lists cover 15 to 20 places and call it complete. We tracked real cost of living, wifi speed, and safety scores across all 70 cities in our database and ranked every one of them.
Search for the best digital nomad cities and you'll find the same 15 to 20 names recycled across dozens of articles: Chiang Mai, Lisbon, Bali, Medellin, on repeat. Those places earned their reputation, and they're on this list too. But we track structured cost, wifi, and safety data across 70 cities, not 15, and once you look past the usual suspects there's a genuinely different picture of where the best value actually sits in 2026.
This ranking uses a composite score built from three factors we track for every city on the site: cost of living (weighted 40 percent, since it's the single biggest lever for most nomads), internet speed (30 percent), and a safety score out of 10 (30 percent). It's not the only way to rank cities, and your priorities might weight things differently, which is exactly why every entry links through to the full data page so you can check the numbers that matter most to you.

Most Expensive Cities on Our List (And Why They Still Rank)
Not every nomad is chasing the lowest possible budget. Some are prioritizing career networking, family schooling, or simply want the comfort of an established Western city, and these are the priciest bases we track. Singapore, Miami, and Sydney all run around $3,200 a month for a comfortable single lifestyle, with Vancouver, Barcelona, and Toronto close behind in the $3,000 range. They earn their place on the map through visa stability, healthcare quality, and career-relevant networking that a cheaper base often can't match.
How to Actually Use This List
Don't just pick the number one city and book a flight. Cross-reference this ranking against your specific priorities: check the full city page for visa options and neighborhood breakdowns, run a side-by-side comparison against two or three finalists, and factor in flight costs from your current location, which can swing the true cost of a move more than the destination's own cost of living does.
