    Taiwan Digital Nomad Visa 2026: 2-Year Stay ($20k / $40k Income)

12 min read · Last checked July 2026

Taiwan quietly became one of Asia's most interesting long-stay options: a real Digital Nomad Visa for visa-exempt nationals, extended to up to two years under 2026 rules, with income bars that are modest compared with Gold Card thresholds. Taipei then delivers what nomads actually feel day-to-day — fiber internet, safety, MRT convenience, and a food culture that makes "another year" an easy decision.

    Official track
Taiwan Digital Nomad Visa (Talent Taiwan)
    Duration
Up to 2 years (extended from the earlier 6-month pilot framing)
    Income (age 20–29)
At least USD $20,000 annual income in one of the last two years
    Income (age 30+)
At least USD $40,000 annual income in one of the last two years
    Banking
Average balance around USD $10,000 over the prior 6 months (typical ask)
    Who can apply
Visa-exempt nationals working remotely for non-Taiwan entities
    Alt track
Employment Gold Card (higher bar, stronger work rights & tax perks)

Eligibility also includes people who already hold a digital nomad visa from another country — a useful alternate door if income documentation is awkward but your prior DNV is solid. Always verify the latest Talent Taiwan checklist.

Who Qualifies for the Digital Nomad Visa

    • Passport holders who are visa-exempt for Taiwan entry
    • Remote work for a company or clients outside Taiwan (not local employment on this track)
    • Age-based income proof: $20k (20–29) or $40k (30+) annual in one of the past two years — or prior foreign DNV
    • Bank statements showing the required average balance over recent months
    • International health insurance covering the stay
    • Standard identity, photo, and application materials

Gold Card vs Digital Nomad Visa

The Employment Gold Card remains Taiwan's prestige talent product: work permit + residence bundled for qualified professionals in designated fields, often with multi-year validity and meaningful tax incentives for high earners. Income bars are much higher (commonly discussed around NT$160,000/month average for salary-based tracks). Choose DN visa for straightforward remote work stays; choose Gold Card if you need local work flexibility, longer strategic residency, or the tax-holiday style benefits.

    • Digital Nomad Visa: lower income bar, remote foreign work, up to 2 years, simpler story
    • Gold Card: field/qualification gated, higher income or talent criteria, stronger integration path
    • Do not assume Gold Card tax perks apply to DN visa holders — they are different regimes

    Required Documents

    • Valid passport from a visa-exempt country
    • Income evidence (tax returns, employer letters, payslips) matching the age band
    • Bank statements showing ~USD $10,000 average balance over six months
    • Proof of remote employment or business ownership outside Taiwan
    • Health insurance documentation
    • Completed online/application forms per National Immigration / Talent Taiwan instructions
    • If using the "other country DNV" route: proof of that visa grant

How to Apply — Step by Step

    1. Confirm visa-exempt nationality status and that your work is foreign-remote.
    2. Assemble income and banking evidence that matches the age band (or prior DNV proof).
    3. Purchase insurance that covers Taiwan for the intended duration.
    4. Submit through the official Talent Taiwan / immigration digital nomad channel.
    5. Wait for approval (often measured in weeks; buffer flights).
    6. Enter Taiwan, complete any landing/residence formalities, and calendar renewals before the 2-year mark if applicable.

    Tax & Banking Notes

Short of becoming a Taiwanese tax resident, many nomads keep foreign income outside local taxation — but day-count rules matter. Gold Card holders have separate high-earner incentive schemes (including multi-year partial exemptions for qualifying salary levels). Open local banking after you have the right residence documentation; EasyCard + MRT life is easy regardless.

    Common Mistakes

    • Confusing the DN visa with the Gold Card and preparing the wrong income package
    • Showing a single-month bank spike instead of a six-month average balance
    • Planning local Taiwanese employment while holding only the DN visa
    • Underestimating summer humidity/typhoon season when signing a 12-month lease sight-unseen
    • Ignoring ARC/residence formalities after entry when the stay is long-term
